The ear, nose and throat clinic at Nuremberg Hospital
is one of the largest clinics of its kind in the whole of Germany.
More than 6000 patients are treated every year and more than
3700 operations are performed.
Together with the conservative treatment of sudden loss of
hearing, tinnitus, allergies and vertigo, it is above all the
surgical procedures which play a major role in the ENT clinic.
These include operations to improve the hearing, surgery to
the nose and sinuses (including plastic surgery), together
with throat, larynx and tumour surgery. The interdisciplinary
operating theatres of the new Surgical Centre offer the very
best conditions for all kinds of operations.
In addition we offer an extensive range of plastic and aesthetic
operations for the face and neck.
Operations to the nose and sinuses
We perform plastic corrections to the nasal septum and conchae
to improve nasal breathing. We have accumulated a great wealth
of expertise, particularly in the field of minimally invasive
endoscopic surgery to the sinuses. Cosmetic corrections to
the outer nose also feature among the routine surgical procedures
we perform.
Operations to the ear
The ENT clinic covers the whole range of surgery to the ear.
In the case of chronic inflammation of the middle ear, the
focus of inflammation in the middle ear is removed to prevent
complications. At the same time, an attempt is made to improve
hearing by performing a tympanoplasty. Hardness of hearing
in the middle ear caused by fixed or missing auditory ossicles
can be improved considerably by micro-surgical procedures to
replace the auditory ossicles. Surgery to the middle ear is
as gentle as possible using a modern surgical microscope (micro-surgery).
We also perform plastic corrections to the outer ear.
Tumour surgery
Innovative diagnosis and therapy procedures are available
for tumour patients. Major surgery to tumours in the head and
neck with plastic reconstruction and minimally invasive laser
surgical tumour resections are among our standard procedures.
Operations to the throat and larynx
Patients who have problems with the voice, speech and swallowing
functions find all-round care. Benign changes to the vocal
cords (e.g. oedemas, polyps and nodules) are removed by micro-surgery
to improve the voice production. Tonsil and adenoid operations
in children belong to daily routine operations.
Sudden loss of hearing, vertigo and tinnitus
A sudden loss of hearing or tinnitus is probably caused by
circulatory disorders in the tiny vessels of the inner ear.
This is why it is so important particularly in cases of a
sudden loss of hearing and acute tinnitus for treatment to
begin as early as possible, within the first few days after
it has started. Treatment usually takes place in the day clinic
consisting of infusions with drugs to assist the circulation
and/or administering steroids.
