Prostate centre

The urology clinic at Nuremberg hospital runs a prostate centre which offers the full range of diagnosis and therapy for benign and malignant prostate disease according to the very latest medical findings.

The prostate centre works in close contact with self help groups and regularly informs the general public in a series of lectures about meaningful new progress in the diagnosis and therapy of prostate disease.

  • Scan-assisted prostate biopsy:
    • Diagnosis within 24 hours
      (possibly classification of prostate cancer)
    • Prostate cancer is the most frequent kind of cancer in men of an advanced age. But at the same time, it is one of the types of cancer with good chances of healing when discovered in time. Scan-assisted prostate biopsy is capable of finding even tiny growths and produces a diagnosis within 24 hours.
  • Treatment of benign prostate enlargement:
    • Thermotherapy as transurethral microwave therapy (TUMT)
    • Laser therapy
    • Implantation of prostate stents
    • Transurethral resection of the prostate (TUR)
    • Many different therapies are possible for treating benign prostate enlargement. Thermotherapy as transurethral microwave therapy (TUMT) and the implantation of prostate stents is ideal particularly for high-risk patients.
Together with laser therapy, for decades the established and continuously improved method of transurethral resection offers the fastest and surest chances of success.
  • Treatment of prostate cancer

Meanwhile there are various methods available for treating prostate cancer which are selected individually for each patient following an extensive diagnosis procedure.

    • Minimally invasive laparoscopic pelvine lymph dissection
    • Radical retropubic and perineal prostatectomy, where possible saving the nerves to preserve potency
    • Interstitial brachytherapy with iodine 125 following the rapid Strandâ procedure
    • "HIFU therapie" which destroys the tumour tissue by high intensity focussed ultrasound
    • Thanks to the close interdisciplinary cooperation at Nuremberg Hospital, all other procedures for radiotherapy, endocrinology and chemotherapy treatment of prostate cancer are available.
